HAPPINEZ IBIZA
Our cotton bath mats are woven from 100% cotton and finished with a tufted pile, which is what makes them soft underfoot and genuinely absorbent rather than just decorative. Every mat in this collection is machine washable, and most sizes work as a single mat beside the shower or as a pair, one at the basin and one at the tub. The palette stays close to what we do throughout the shop: ecru, earth, khaki, mustard and off-white, with the occasional stripe or check.
A tufted bath mat has thousands of individual yarn loops standing upright rather than a flat woven surface. That structure holds more water and releases it faster, so the mat dries between uses instead of staying damp. Cotton adds to this, because the fibre absorbs up to 25 times its own weight in moisture. It's the reason an absorbent bath mat in natural fibre outperforms a synthetic one, even when the synthetic feels plusher in the shop.
Most mats in this collection measure 50 × 70 cm, the standard size for a shower or basin. For a longer stretch of floor, or in front of a double vanity, the 60 × 90 cm mats give better coverage. We also carry a round bath mat with a 60 cm diameter, which suits a corner shower or a smaller bathroom where a rectangle would fight the layout.
A useful rule when you're choosing: a bath mat shouldn't cover more than roughly three quarters of the floor. Beyond that the room reads cluttered and the mat takes far longer to dry. Two smaller mats almost always beat one oversized one.
Several designs, including the Fez and Fez Rabat, have a latex backing that grips the tiles, so the mat stays where you put it on a wet floor. If you're looking specifically for a non slip bath mat, filter for these. The mats without a latex layer sit well on textured stone and wood, but on polished tile we'd suggest an anti-slip underlay.
The checkered bath mats in ecru and tierra are the ones that turn up in most bathrooms we style, a quiet pattern that adds texture without demanding attention. The Olso has fringed edges for a softer, more relaxed finish; the Helios is trimmed with pom-poms. For a plainer look, the brown and off-white and beige designs disappear into a natural bathroom and let the material do the work.
Wash cold, at 30°C. Don't tumble dry, don't iron, and skip the bleach, because it breaks down cotton fibres and dulls the natural dyes. Hang the mat over the edge of the bath or a rail between uses so air can reach both sides; a mat left flat on a cold floor stays damp and starts to smell within days.
Bath mats sit naturally alongside our other home textiles, since the same cotton weaves and earthy tones run through the plaids and the rugs. For a fuller natural look, a woven basket for towels finishes the room without adding another piece of furniture.
All bath mats are in stock and ship throughout Spain and Europe. You're also welcome to feel the difference in person at our showroom in San José, Ibiza, where the full textile collection is on display.
